Dr Mark Darbyshire, Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Mark Darbyshire is a versatile General Practitioner with extensive experience providing high-quality primary care in a variety of challenging circumstances. He took a lead role in responding to the Covid pandemic, ensuring the delivery of safe and effective care under extreme pressure. His civilian career includes serving as a single-handed GP principal in the Scottish Highlands and later as a partner in busy South Wales practices. A qualified GP trainer and experienced tutor on courses up to the Master’s level, he is actively involved in teaching medical students and trainee doctors. He has special clinical interests in Diabetes, Dermatology, Musculoskeletal medicine, Cardiovascular medicine, and Anticoagulation. With a Master’s Degree in Healthcare Law, he is adept at guiding patients and practitioners through complex legal principles and served as the data protection lead in his GP partnership.

​Dr. Darbyshire is thrilled to bring his extensive frontline experience to Molomix. His background in developing healthcare systems in resource-limited settings gives him a unique insight into the profound impact Molomix’s technology can have on a global scale. Having faced the clinical uncertainty caused by diagnostic delays, he is a passionate advocate for Molomix’s groundbreaking platform. He believes its ability to deliver rapid, AI-powered molecular analysis at the point-of-need will be transformative for healthcare, improving patient outcomes, combating antimicrobial resistance, and reducing health inequalities.

​Prior to his civilian practice, Dr. Darbyshire served with distinction as a Medical Officer in the British Army, leaving with the rank of Major. His military career was defined by clinical leadership and systems development in challenging international contexts. He has significant experience developing and setting up healthcare systems in developing countries and nations affected by warfare. This work involved interfacing extensively with foreign health services and giving briefings at governmental and international NGO levels to help shape healthcare policy. During his service, he was awarded the prestigious Queen Mother Medal for best military trainee doctor.

​Dr. Darbyshire graduated from the University of Wales College of Medicine, where he earned a first-class BSc in Human Anatomy. Outside of his professional work, Mark is an avid gardener, plays the banjo, enjoys hill walking, and serves as the chair and plays tight-head prop for a local rugby team.
